Frequently Asked Questions

Q:
How long does a neck or body order take to complete?
A:
Our Ready-to-Build items typically will ship out on the next business day. For all Made-to-Order items, it typically takes about four to six weeks from the date a neck or body is ordered before it is ready to ship. Allow a minimum of two additional weeks for more custom items such as bodies with laminated top or bound bodies and necks. Our turn-around times do vary throughout the year, so give us a call or shoot us an email at sales@soundguitarworks.com and we can get you a more accurate time frame.
Q:
Do you offer OEM services and if so what is your OEM pricing?
A:
We do offer OEM services. You can visit our OEM page for more information on how to get started. The prices you see on our website are our current wholesale prices, but we do offer additional discounts for higher volume orders.
Q:
I've checked out your Ready-to-Build bodies, but I'm looking for something more custom. How can I order a custom guitar or bass body from you?
A:
At the moment, the best way to order a custom body is by sending us an email at sales@soundguitarworks.com. We hope to have our custom body order forms up on our website soon to make ordering easier.
Q:
Your standard line neck builder is great, but it doesn't have any bass or custom neck options. Can I order a custom guitar or bass neck?
A:
Absolutely. We hope to have our custom guitar and bass neck order forms up on our website soon. In the meantime, you can give us a call or send us an email at sales@soundguitarworks.com to place your custom guitar or bass neck order.
Q:
What if I don't see some of the options I'm looking for on your website?
A:
We offer a lot more features and options, such as blocks and binding, than what we are currently able to list on our website. So if you don't see something, feel free to contact us at sales@soundguitarworks.com for a list of options and pricing.
Q:
Do you offer finishing services?
A:
We don't have a finish shop in-house, but we can recommend a high-quality finisher to you based on your location and the type of finish you are interested in. Check out our Luthier List for our recommended full service finish shops.
Q:
Do you offer guitar repair services or assembly?
A:
We don't do any guitar repair or assembly services in-house, but feel free to contact us for recommendations of talented luthiers near you. You can also check out our Luthier List to find just the technician you are looking for.
Q:
Do your necks come dressed and level, or will I need to do some additional fret work?
A:
We do not perform fret leveling/crowning as this process is very subjective. However, our necks are typically playable straight out of the box so additional fret work is up to your preference. Please keep in mind that wood does have a tendency to move with changes in temperature and humidity, so some fret work may be required. Your fretboard may shrink, making fret ends feel sharp, so you may need to do some additional fret end filing, especially if you live in an area prone to extreme changes in climate.
Q:
Can you ship my items directly to my finisher, builder, or other third party recipient?
A:
We can ship to a third party recipient at your request; however, so doing will void your warranty. We recommend receiving and verifying all items yourself before sending them out for finish or assembly.
Q:
I'm a luthier and I don't mind doing some of the work for my custom parts on my end. Do you offer any discounts if I do some of the labor myself?
A:
Yes. We offer several different discounts depending on the level of work you would like to take on. If you order a body or neck unsanded, we will knock off the cost of sanding from the price. You can also order your neck unfretted for additional savings.
Q:
I have some wood I'd like to use in my build. Can you use my materials to make my body or neck?
A:
We do accept customer-supplied materials; however, it is on a case-by-case basis and acceptance is at our discretion. Be aware that customer-supplied materials typically don't offer any cost savings as there is still the labor involved in processing those materials. Additional fees may apply. Please visit our Policies page for more information.
Q:
I'm in the area and would like to stop by. Can I come down and check out some bodies and necks or take a shop tour?
A:
As we don't have a retail storefront, the best way to browse our bodies and necks is on our website. If you need to come by, we recommend calling ahead to ensure someone will be able to assist you. Unfortunately, wood shops can be dangerous places (have you seen our Instagram videos?), so we are unable to offer shop tours for safety reasons. However, you can check out all the mayhem on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
Q:
Oops! I realized I dropped the ball and I need my neck or body made as quickly as possible. What can you do for me?
A:
We try to accommodate rush orders; however, acceptance is on a case-by-case basis and at our discretion. A rush order fee may also apply. All bodies and necks take a minimum of two weeks to complete, so if you need your new neck or body sooner, check out our Ready-to-Build options. All Ready-to-Build orders typically ship within one business day.
